Configure NPC generation datasets
- Open Campaign Settings, then World.
- Enable the built-in datasets that fit the campaign.
- Add custom datasets for setting-specific names, traits, appearances, motivations, or notes.
- Save World Settings before generating a character.
Best practice
Use several small, coherent datasets instead of one list containing every culture and tone. Generated combinations will feel more intentional.
Generate an NPC draft
- Create a Character and choose NPC rather than Player Character.
- Select Generate NPC to fill the available draft fields from enabled datasets.
- Re-roll individual fields when most of the draft works.
- Edit the result for the current scene, then save it as a normal campaign entity.
Important
Generation produces editable prompts, not established campaign truth. Review names, combinations, and implications before introducing the NPC to players.
Import and synchronize D&D Beyond characters
- The campaign owner enables D&D Beyond from Campaign Settings, then Integrations.
- Create or edit a Player Character and enter the numeric value from its public D&D Beyond character URL in D&D Beyond Character ID.
- Select Fetch from D&D Beyond, then review the imported name, race, classes, levels, and portrait before saving.
- Use character re-sync for one linked character or Resync All Characters from Integrations.
Important
The source character must be publicly accessible. Re-sync updates supported imported fields; keep campaign-only notes and relationships in Tapestry.
